Swashbuckler by SirJarva Swashbuckler by SirJarva
Finally finished this. I thought this should be a quick coloring job but it was freaking hard to work with so many dark shades and make the colors fit together. I hope I didn't make it too dark because my monitor seems to show dark colors incorrectly.

Here's the sketch: [link]

No, it's not too dark.. it's awesome! There's a perfect touch of dim light with the little lantern. And the beautiful huge moon behind all this. As to the character, he's compelling. I love the atmosphere you're creating!

Well, I'm not so sure about that technical part :D There's still long way for me to hit the commercial market.

But thank you for your words, that's really pleasant to hear :)

but I like the way the warm lantern light is reflected in the cutlass, looks like he's a Cornish sailor

Ah, I was actually concerned about the color harmony (blue & orange combination) :) That orange spot feels so lonely in there, that I almost changed lantern light's color into green but then I tought that the blue & green combination is so often used.

But you're right, that light brings certain feeling to this :)

Thanks, although it looks rather silly that the lantern's glow sticks out so strongly in the middle of the blue tones.

Thanks for your comment. Actually I didn't try to make it evil but somehow people see it that way :) I'm so blind to my own work :D

LOVE IT. :blowkiss:

some of the detail from the sketch is lost in the dark shades but it has such a great, moody, evil feel. it truly is its own piece. Amazing. my favorite one from you (so far)

Uhmmm, the sketch took less than a hour and the coloring about 15-20 hours. Maybe a half of that time was just staring the pic, so I could see was there anything wrong.
